Changing the local path of projects is not intuitive in Visual Studio Team Foundation Server

The Local Path is the place that the code resides on your local machine; this is setup when you join a project. If you subsequently add something to the project and discover (as I did) that it is not in the right place, then you can move it quite easily; once you know where to look. The Local Paths are set in the Workspace that you have setup for the project, so to edit these you need the File -> Source Control -> Workspaces… menu item which opens the workspaces dialog. From here you can edit the workspace and remove/add/change the local paths.

Simple once you find it!

I’ve not posted here for a while now, which is probably the biggest sin of the blogging world. But then this was never designed to be a view into my life, more a collection of professional comments from my work life.

I’ve returned as I now have a comment which is partly from my work life and partly my own life. I’ve just been looking at AdaptiveBlue, which is apparantly a ‘web 3.0′ technology (if technology is the right word here). This is web 3.0 in terms of the semantic web, i.e. providing contextual information based on the semantics of the content.

AdaptiveBlue provides a contextual link next to your own hyperlinks that provides extended information on that link. Examples are things such as films and book, where it will provide you with links to Amazon or reviews etc.

It is interesting and a good tool. My reason for mentioning it is my perception of how quickly people are moving past web 2.0, which as far as I know still has not landed with that big a thump, and into web 3.0. It is difficult to include new technologies in web sites as people do not want them, they do not understand or percieve the benefit. This is changing, and I’m leading our company into web 2.0 through increasing use of more interactive web sites that provide a more desktop style user experience.

I wonder if the web 3.0 thing that is starting to emerge is people trying to be the one to define the ‘next big thing’ and thus make a name for themselves amongst the techy?

Who knows.

Now, why should they not? Surely it is the consumer market that drives the price here. If people are prepared to pay it, then Apple will charge it.

I have to say I’m not surprised at all they are doing this.

I’ve had a go with our honeymoon route, and it’s rather easy to setup. You can login with your Gmail account (presuming you have one) and create maps with lines, shapes and markers. Into the markers you then put text and pictures.

The Quality Street is a chocolate brand that for many British people is indicative of the Christmas period (along with Roses). There is always a box under the tree, and as in my case a communal tin on the desk at work.

The interesting thing is how the choice of chocolates divides people. From memory there are something like 8 different kinds, including fudge, toffee, nuts and orange flavoured varieties.

There are those that will only eat one or two kinds, and those like me that just stick their hand in for a random one. The most interesting though, are those that profess they do not like this one and they do not like that one, then they eat them anyway and confess that, actually, they are ok.

It has been a very busy time since my last post. I was married in September, and have been non-stop at work since we returned from honeymoon.

I have also moved my diary to this Wordpress powered site. What a fab bit of software. It was recommended by a friend of mine who uses it for his site (Pinebank Design).

Very impressed. My intention is to start using it more as I get more time.
